Nothing gets built until someone measures it. As an apprentice Surveyor Assistant, that someone is you.
You’ll work with survey crews to lay out construction sites so everything gets built exactly where it’s supposed to be. You’ll transport and set up instruments, hold rods and targets, place stakes and markers, and record the field data that establishes boundaries, elevations, and alignment.
You may also help prepare sketches and reports for engineers and project managers.

Accuracy is everything in this role. Your measurements prevent costly errors and keep entire projects on track. If you like precision and want to understand how large-scale construction comes together from the very first stake in the ground, this trade is worth a serious look.
